Google has said for a while now that Stadia would arrive in November, and now we have a firm date — Tuesday, November 19. In fact, if you pre-ordered the “Founder’s Edition” pack from Stadia, Google says they’ll “start arriving on gamers’ doorsteps” that very day and gameplay will open up at 9am PST.
While it won’t always be the case, on launch day you’ll need to have purchased the Founder’s Edition to be able to play. That pack includes a Chromecast Ultra and a Stadia Controller, which will be a great way to experience Stadia, but you’ll be able to play a variety of other ways:
- Mac and Windows PCs, through Chrome.
- Chrome OS devices, such as a Chromebook.
- Google Pixel 2, 3, 3a, and 4 phones.
At launch, the Stadia controller will only work wirelessly through the Chromecast Ultra. If you want to play on any other device, you’ll need to physically connect the controller to the device. This won’t always be the case, but it is for now.
We’ll know more as the date approaches, but we’re getting close!
